Mixing

  • Milling and mixing of the electrode material to get the raw material for anode (carbon) and cathode (lithium metal oxide with conductive binding agent) for the coating process
  • Currently there are no WEISS products that are being used in this process

Coating

  • Copper foil as anode and aluminum foil as cathode are coated, dried and compressed
  • Currently there are no WEISS products that are being used in this process

Slitting

  • Coated foils are fed into slitting machines to cut the foil into narrower strips and later to the required length
  • Currently there are no WEISS products that are being used in this process

WINDING

  • One of three basic electrode structures are used depending on the type of battery cell
  • Wound electrode structures, called jelly roll, are used for prismatic and cylindrical cells
  • ST: Freely programmable rotating unit for a high speed and torque

Formation & Aging

  • To activate the working materials the cell is put through several charge and discharge cycles with gradually increasing voltage. The resulting gas is removed and the open circuit voltage measured over a longer period

Ultrasonic cleaning

  • Surface of battery cell is cleaned with ultrasonic and labeled with self-adhesive foil or glue
